Fenway Faith Day 2012

Fenway Park played host to Fenway Faith Day on Sunday afternoon. 

City on a Hill Church of Brookline hosted the Fenway Faith Day, in several Red Sox players talked about the role of faith in Jesus plays in their lives. 

A band from City on a Hill lead the crowd in a few songs before host Bland Mason, Lead Pastor of City on a Hill spoke as the master of ceremnoies. He introduced pitcher, Mark Melancon, who gave a testimony to the crowd in the stands. "At age 9, I had committed my life to Christ. Knowing that there is an eternity in Heaven waiting is a powerful form of freedom."

Outfielder Daniel Nava spoke next. "My faith played a big role in my baseball career. I had been told I wasn't going to make it, but my faith never waivered."

Katherine Nixon, wife of Trot Nixon, spoke next. She said that she was committed to being mentally fit, physically fit, and spiritually fit. She has run in six marathons, four of which were in Boston, and she had participated in five Pan Mass Challenges. She told the crowd that she was a "partier" in college and was on the wrong track. Trot would always say "You didn't have Jesus in your heart back then." She and Trot were baptized together and her feelings of emptiness and loneliness have gone away since she turned her track around.

Jarrod "Salty" Saltalamacchia spoke next, saying that he had never endured any real struggles or hardships as a young kid. When he was traded to Texas, he became troubled and turned to Christ for guidence. 

Daniel Bard spoke last, saying that this year was "an interesting year." His mission was to find his identity beyond what he was doing. He wanted to find that sense of purpose through Christ. 

The Church on the Hill band played the closing with passionate songs and prayer.
