Fenway-Kenmore Answers: How Can I Get a Crosswalk On My Street?

Ask a question you have about the neighborhood and get an answer in this weekly column. This week? Crosswalks.

In this week's column of "," a new feature where we find the answers to your questions, reader Ruth Goran asked about the process for getting a crosswalk installed in Boston.

Goran said there's only one crosswalk on her street, and crossing at the other end can get dangerous.

"How can we get another crosswalk installed?" she asked.

I reached out to the City of Boston, to the Boston Transportation Department. A represetative from the department said all you'd need to do is call the Mayor's Hotline to make a formal request. That number is: 617-635-4500. You can call anytime, 7 days a week to make the request.

The representative added that any request would be reviewed by the city's engineers and would need to follow federal and state laws.
