Small Memorial Growing for Kenmore Sq. Bike Accident Victim

Mourners have left flowers and photos at the site where an MIT scientist was killed on Sunday.

There's no ghost bike yet, but a small memorial of flowers and photos now lies at the intersection of Beacon Street and Charlesgate West to commemorate Dr. Kanako Miura, who was killed there while on her bike on Sunday afternoon. 

and a native of Japan. She had been at the university since last fall, researching robots, including how to give them human-like motions. 

There have not yet been any charges pressed related to her death, although police have interviewed the truck driver responsible for striking her.

Miura had a B.E. in aerospace engineering, M.E and Ph.D. in information science from the Tohoku University, Japan. She also received a Ph.D. in Electronique, Electrotechnique, Automatique from l'Universite Louis Pasteur, France in 2004.

A small but growing group of flower bouquets now lie near a tree on Baystate Road, right at the large intersection of Beacon Street, Charlesgate West and Baystate Road. The memorial also features a photo of Miura wearing an astronaut helmet, with a caption in Japanese.
