One of Boston's main thoroughfares will be closed at night as workers make interim repairs to its tunnel system.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation is closing the Storrow Drive Tunnel westbound every weeknight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures are expected to last until Dec. 1.

A detour will take motorists over the Longfellow Bridge, encouraging them to use Memorial Drive.

The repairs will buy time — up to a decade — for the state to come up with a long-term plan to shore up the 60-year-old tunnel, according to the Globe.

The closures will be from the Hatch Shell to Clarendon Street.
