Corvias Foundation Takes Part In Run To Home Base

For the 5th consecutive year, – Corvias Foundation, the charitable arm of Corvias Group, was a sponsor of the Red Sox Run to Home Base. Zia Matti (black and pink shorts) and Megan Conroy (blue and white shorts) took part in the race on the Corvias Foundation team.

The two wore the same shirts sent over to Afghanistan for the more than 1,000 service members that participated in a shadow run which occurred in concert with the Run to Home Base.

Corvias Foundation provided all items for the race’s participants, including running bibs designed to replicate those used in the Boston run, medals for each participant upon completion, baseball-themed stress balls, power gel packs to fuel the runners, performance t-shirts and running jackets awarded to the top three finishers for men and women. To fully replicate the spirit of the run in Boston, a home plate was shipped to Afghanistan so each runner can complete the race in similar fashion – by crossing home plate.

“Through the Corvias Foundation, we’re honored to be able to give back to the brave soldiers who fight in honor of our country every day,” said John Picerne, CEO of Corvias Group and founder of the Corvias Foundation. “Even with a reduction of troops overseas, it’s important for those who are still deployed to know we are still focused on supporting them. Through the Run to Home Base and the shadow run, we’re letting them know that whatever the next phase of their military careers, Corvias will support them.”

During its five years of sponsorship of the Run to Home Base event, Corvias has donated more than $120,000 to the Run to Home Base Program in support of its mission to help Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families heal from the invisible wounds of war through world class clinical care, community education and research.

“I know first-hand how meaningful it is for deployed servicemen to feel like they are a part of something greater such as this shadow run-- especially when it’s an event in honor of them,” said Brigadier General (ret) Jack Hammond, Home Base Program Executive Director. “Two years ago, I was a participant in a shadow run to Home Base race in Kabul, Afghanistan and it made me feel connected to home, even while far away. The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base program is extremely grateful for the steadfast support of the Corvias Foundation.”
