Want to Watch Fireworks Over Boston Harbor? Well, Now You Can

Capping off the annual Boston Arts Festival (ähts) this year will be a special show: The lighting of fireworks over Boston Harbor.

Organizers announced this week that the highlight of the weekend would be a fireworks show held at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.   Launched from a barge anchored in the Harbor between South Boston and East Boston, you should be able to catch the show from many areas along the waterfront, including Christopher Columbus Park. 

“We’re looking forward to bringing public fireworks back to Boston Harbor to celebrate our annual arts festival,” Mayor Menino said. “It will be another great Labor Day weekend in the City of Boston with something for everyone to enjoy.”

The festival will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1. at Christopher Columbus Park. The event showcases more than forty juried visual artists exhibiting and selling one-of a-kind paintings, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, jewelry, fine glasswork, woodwork, mixed media, and photography, and also features a performing arts and interactive arts program. 

The Boston Arts Festival and fireworks show is also part of the city's "Summer on the Waterfront" initiative, despite to bring residents and visitors of the waterfront area together. 

“Boston’s waterfront is exciting and offers something for residents and visitors alike,” continued Suzanne Taylor, executive director of the Freedom Trail Foundation and a Summer on the Waterfront organizer.  “We invite people to enjoy the fireworks on August 31, and to visit the hundreds of museums, parks, restaurants and other local businesses that line the harbor year-round.”
