Fenway Marriott Opening in May 2013

The $60 million Marriott Residence Inn currently under construction on Brookline Avenue near Fenway Park is slated to be finished by May 2013, according to the project's developers.  

The project, taken on by Boston developer Boylston Properties, will yield an 8-floor, 175 room hotel, and underground parking garage, 6,000 square feet of restaurant space on the ground floor, and a pool - on the roof. 

The new hotel comes to an area that has seen a lot of development and change just in the last several months, with an new Marshall's store location opening across the street, and the new beer lover's restaurant Yard House. 

Boylston Properties had originally looked to build lab space at the same location, but changed plans in 2007 when demand from medical and biotechnology sank, according to the Boston Globe. 

The Recent Ceremony
Boylston Properties, the architect Group One Partners of Boston, general contractor John Moriarty and Associates of Winchester, local officials and business owners came together at the hotel's "Topping Off" ceremony held earlier this month to celebrate the project and recognize the construction and iron and metal workers for their hard work. During the event, the last beam needed for the hotel was hoisted up on top of the metal structure, decorated by hundreds of signatures.

Bill Richardson, president of the Fenway Civic Association, welcomed Boylston Properties principal William McQuillan to the neighborhood.

"We look to his continued support for projects in the neighborhood whether its our parks or schools," he said. "We've been blessed to have such a good developer - it's been great to have him here," he said. 

Red Sox owner Larry Lucchino also spoke at the ceremony.

"The ecosystem around us will be better because of this project," he said, offering an actual cup of sugar to McQuillan to welcome him as a neighbor. 

"Congrats on having the vision for our city," said Mike Ross, city councilor in the Fenway neighborhood. "There are great people who live here, and it's only getting better, with longterm jobs for people to work at these projects," he said.
