Five Things, Including Art for Kids

Five things you need to know today, July 2.

1. Heat Break: Hopefully, you got through the heat wave. Today, the National Weather Forecast predicts a more tolerable partly sunny, 86-degree day. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m. The evening should cool off to around 66 and the chance of storms still lingers.

2. MFA Playdates: This event is geared towards children ages 4 and under. No registration is required and it is free.  

3. Alex Katz Prints: Alex Katz’s vibrant color and glowing lights are on display at the Museum of Fine Arts. Katz is known for his bold portraits and brilliant landscapes. The cost of this event is the museum admissions ticket.

4. Forgotten Chapters of Boston Literary History: The Boston Public Library is hosting an exhibition on the works and editors from the literary heydays of 1794 to 1860. Between the years of the Revolution and the Civil War, Boston was the center of literary creativity in this country. Come see this free event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Cheverus Room at the Central Library in Copley Square

5. Boston City Councils Committee on Public Safety: There is a public safety council meeting at noon at the Boston City Hall, Iannella Chambers, 5th Flr. regarding public safety, sponsored by Mayor Menino. The council will accept grants from various safety departments and organizations.
