Northeastern Students Admit to Vandalizing Menorah

Two Northeastern University students have come forward for their role in vandalizing a Menorah on the Northeastern campus on Friday. 

“[The] students have accepted responsibility for vandalizing the university’s Menorah,” wrote Dr. Laura Wankel, Vice President of Student Affairs, in a letter sent to students. “These students will be referred immediately to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution for disciplinary action.”

The Menorah, which was on display at Northeastern's Krenztman Quad, was vandalized around 1 a.m. on Friday, according to an email to students from Northeastern University President Joesph Aoun on Friday afternoon.

Aoun said he was “deeply disturbed" by the incident. 

"This kind of hateful act is completely unacceptable and has no place in our community," he said, noting that the school's public safety division was actively investigating the incident. "We will do all we can to identify and punish those who are responsible," he wrote. 

The school’s Public Safety division began investigating the incident on Friday, but the students came forward shortly after. Northeastern Police have not released the names of the students involved in the vandalism. 

The display was fixed on Friday.
