Red Sox Buy Lansdowne Street Garage

The owners of the Red Sox spent $10.5 million for the garage property.

The Lansdowne Street garage could undergo some changes in the future, as the owners of the Red Sox bought the property last week for $10.5 million.

For now, the Red Sox say the property will stay a garage for the "forseeable future," Sox spokeswoman Zineb Curran told the Boston Herald

Under current zoning, the two-story garage could be converted into up to an eight-story building.

The former owner, John Rosenthal bought the garage in 1993 for $2.5 million, then planning to redevelop the property. But Rosenthal faced opposition from the Red Sox owners, and instead changed his Fenway Center projects to other areas of the neighborhood. Construction has already begun on those development projects.
