Red Sox Legend Johnny Pesky Died at 92

Johnny Pesky died today at the age of 92.

Johnny Pesky, the former Red Sox player who remained a part of the team for the past 61 years, died at the age of 92 today, The Boston Globe reported

Pesky began his career in Boston in 1942 and missed three seasons when he went to fight in World War II. He returned from World War II in 1946, he played for the Sox from 1946 to 1952, The Boston Herald reported. He was traded to the Detroit Tigers in 1952 and then to Washington in 1954. He played shortstop and third base.

Pesky managed the Red Sox from 1963 to 1964. He was a color commentator on the raido and television announcing crewon WHDH Radio and WBZ-TV from 1972 to 1974.

Pesky's Pole in right field is named after Johnny Pesky. His number 6 was retired on his 89th birthday. He was a part of the Red Sox organization for 61 of his 73 years in baseball.

Johnny Pesky embodied the Red Sox spirit and tradition. He will be missed by fans, young and old.
