The Boston Phoenix, STUFF Magazine to Merge

The Boston Phoenix and STUFF Magazine will combine to make The Phoenix.

Alternative news heavyweights, The Boston Phoenix and lifestyle mag, STUFF Magazine are merging into The Phoenix, according to the Boston Business Journal.

The Boston Phoenix put out a press release, explaining that the two Fenway-based publications will merge in early fall of this year.

“Its content will combine the lifestyle appeal of STUFF with the journalistic prowess of The Boston Phoenix and it will give vital and fresh coverage of Boston’s life, culture, politics, music and style,” according to the press release.

Phoenix Media sold 101.7 WFNX-FM to Clearchannel in May, which ultimately went off the air , but continue to broadcast from WFNX.com. The Boston Business Journal reported that five staff members of The Boston Phoenix were let go as a result of the consolidation. 

The Portland and Providence Phoenix will remain altenartive newspapers, according to the press release. The new glossy magazine will be distributed for free in the Boston area.
