Things to Know in Fenway-Kenmore Today, May 23: Celtics at Northeastern

Find out what's happening in the neighborhood today.

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a mostly cloudy day, with a high near 75 degrees, and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The afternoon will be windy with gusts up to 20 mph. 

2. Celtics Stop By Northeastern: Jared Sullinger of the Boston Celtics and approximately 1,500 middle school students will be at Northeastern today for the city's annual “Stay in School” end-of-year celebration at Northeastern University’s  Matthews Arena. Students will be recognized for perfect school attendance and outstanding achievement in writing and the arts. A whopping 670 students will be honored for perfect attendance during the 2012-13 school year, and 20 will be cited for not missing a day of school during their entire three-year middle school careers. 

3. Kenmore Memorial Growing: A small group of flower bouquets has been steadily growing this week near the intersection of Bay State Road, Charlesgate West and Beacon Street, where an MIT scientists was struck and killed while on her bike on Sunday. See more here.

4. Lt. Governor to Resign: In case you missed yesterday's breaking news, Lt. Governor Tim Murray officially announced that he would be resigning from office as of June 2nd. The next day he will take over as president and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. Read more here. 

5. Marathon Bombing Update: In other breaking news yesterday, the FBI disclosed that an agent shot and killed a man who reportedly had ties to marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnev, after the man attacked the agent with a knife during questioning. See here for more details.
