National Braille Press Hosts Story Time at North End Public Library
What: National Braille Press (NBP), will host Hands On! braille Story Time at
the North End Public Library in recognition of October Blind Awareness Month.
Jay Hooley, Chairman, President and CEO of State Street Corporation will read
along with braille reader Juna Gjata, a freshman at Harvard University. They
will read from children’s books produced by NBP in the innovative print/braille
format, allowing sighted and blind people to read together.
The event will take
place during the North End Library’s regularly scheduled Toddler Storytime and
is open to children ages 3-5 accompanied by a care giver. This unique story
time can be enjoyed by both blind and sighted readers. Jay Hooley will also be
receiving the President’s Award at the National Braille Press A Million Laughs for Literacy Gala in November.
NBP is the nation’s premier
braille publisher located in Boston’s historic Back Bay and has been an
innovator in the braille community since 1927. For blind people, braille is an
essential means to literacy and NBP works to provide access to a lifetime of
opportunity for blind people by producing a variety of information in braille.
