Obituary: Dick Kelley, Boston College Sports Information Director

Dick Kelley, 48, an Andover native, has passed away after a lengthy battle with ALS.

Kelley was the assistant athletic director in charge of sports communications at Boston College, where he graduated in 1987.

After working at Boston University briefly, he had gone back to the Eagles in 1991 as the assistant sports information director, before being promoted to assistant AD later that year.

During his tenure with BC athletics, Kelley worked with several winning teams and was one of the hosts to the NCAA’s ice hockey tournament at the then-FleetCenter in 1999.

He has battled ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, for nearly three years.

Kelley was recently awarded with the U.S. Basketball Writers’ Association Most Courageous Award.
