BU Student Killed in Allston Bike Accident Identified

Police have released the name of the 21-year-old killed in a bike accident in Allston on Monday night.

 

Boston Police have identified the male student fatally injuried in a bicycle accident with an MBTA bus in Allston on Monday night as 21-year-old Chung-Wei Yang, according to a statement released on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that after a preliminary investigation, they have determined Yang's bicycle came into contact with the MBTA's Route 57 bus around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Brighton Avenue and Harvard Avenue in Allston.

Police said Yang was seriously injured and transported to Beth Israel Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Police said that so far, no charges have been filed. "There is no indication that the driver or any of the passengers on the bus knew anyone was struck," they said in a statement.

The bus driver was a 58-year-old MBTA employee with six years of experience, and has been suspended from driving following the crash, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo told the Boston Herald.

Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Homicide Detectives (617) 343-4470.

Yang, from Taiwan, was an international relations major at Boston University. A memorial service is planned for Yang at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday, November 17, at Marsh Chapel, preceded by a visitation, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the chapel’s Thurman Room. The memorial service is open to the public.
