Governor Shuts Down T Service as Bomber Manhunt Continues

The subway system is shut down while the bomber manhunt continues.

After a bloody night and multiple gunfights, one suspected bomber is dead and the other remains at large. Governor Deval Patrick requested the MBTA suspend service until further notice as a safety precaution. That includes subway, buses and commuter rail.

Officials asked anyone at a T station or bus to go home. Residents of Watertown, Newton, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge, Alston/Brighton are asked to stay at home and indoors, businesses to remain closed and avoid mass transit.

Does anyone know about the power outage and all the sirens in Medford over last 45 minutes or so? Is it related to the search?
Catherine Quinlan April 19, 2013 at 05:08 PM
Why is there no mention made of the Commuter Rail. Is it shut down or open today? I assumed that it would be open, don't think of it as part of the MBTA, but stops in Waltham might be closed, North Station would be closed - but with all the info I do not see any mention of the Fitchburgh line Commuter Rail through Concord.

yes the commuter rail is also shut down. and Amtrak.

Isn't shutting down everything just caving in to terrorism?
william moss April 19, 2013 at 07:39 PM
It's important to realze shutting down certain systems and residents staying indoors leaves the bomber exposed everytime he moves.

My heart goes out to everyone in Boston. I cannot imagine what hell you are going through. Thoses boys stalked people at the race and left an explosive to blow up a child and anyone in it's path. History proves these people are extreme and pretty bad guys. I do not want this boy in jail I want him dead. What he and his brother did this week was horriffic. Again- I am sorry everything is shut down but I pray for your safety. Pam Ghaster Rocky River, Ohio

What is this guy some kind of Chechen Green Beret?? I thought that they had him surrounded @ 5:30 this morning but with each passing hour and with nightfall and inclement weather approaching I'm concerned that he may elude capture if he hasn't already done so.

I still don't see how putting our lives on hold is helping.
Jenni Schillizzi April 19, 2013 at 10:26 PM
Whitney, it's not... It's a method of cutting off means of escape for the scummer who did this.
Jenni Schillizzi April 19, 2013 at 10:31 PM
It's for our protection while the police systematically flush the scumbag out. The authorities aren't doing this to punish us, please don't think of it that way.

He is probably on a flight out of JFK by now. If the havent found him by now he is long gone.
Zoltan April 19, 2013 at 10:54 PM
Systematically, that's laughable. The older brother was interviewed by the FBI over two years ago AT THE REQUEST OF A FOREIGN GOVERNMENT for having extremist ties. The younger brother was able to ESCAPE ON FOOT. Now he's history and probably on his way to Somalia.
