Green Line Service Restored for Tuesday Commute After Derailment

Workers have cleared the tracks after a Monday afternoon derailment.

If you commute on the E-line, looks like your Tuesday commute can proceed as planned.

That was in doubt Monday afternoon after two Green Line trains collided on Huntington Avenue near Brigham Circle. One train derailed.

Boston EMS treated three people with minor injuries, according to their official Twitter feed.

“At about 4 p.m., an inbound train started moving over to the outbound track and struck outbound train,” MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said. “Human error was the cause because the switch on the track was in the incorrect position. If it were in the proper position, the inbound train would have headed on to Longwood Medical.”

The train crossed over to the outbound track had no passengers on board. There were roughly 12 people on board the outbound train. Two passengers and a driver reported back and neck pain.

Service was suspended for the rest of Monday night. Shuttle buses replaced normal service between the Northeastern University and Heath Street stops while workers cleared the scene.
