Alleged Arsonist Arrested for Setting Fires in Fens

A Boston man who told police he "enjoyed watching things burn," was arrested for setting some clothes on fire in the Fens on Monday, according to police.

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

A Boston man who told police he "enjoyed watching things burn," was arrested for setting some clothes on fire in the Fens on Monday, according to police. 

Officers responded to a report of a person starting fires in a park near Boylston Street and Charlesgate at 6:05 p.m. on April 1.

When they arrived, officers spoke to a witness, who stated that he had observed the suspect light some clothing on fire inside the park.

Police said they found the suspect, Malval Jean Didier of 25 Isabella St., inside the park. Police said Didier told them he "enjoyed watching things burn" and that he had set his clothes on fire. Police said they observed some charred remains of clothing on the ground.

Boston EMS preformed a medical evaluation and Didier refused further medical treatment. Boston Fire Department arrived and extinguished a small fire.

Didier was arrested and charged with arson of personal property, disturbing the peace and destruction of personal property.
