Police: Fenway Man Arrested for Robbery with Fake Gun

Police arrested a Fenway man and two others for allegedly robbing a victim of $140 with a gun that turned out to be fake.

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

Boston Police arrested a Fenway man for allegedly robbing a man on Huntington Avenue on Wednesday night.

Police responded to Huntington Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on May 1st for a report by a victim that he was robbed. The victim told police that a man approached him on the street, pulled out a gun, threatened to shoot and took $140 from him, police said. The victim was transported to the station, where he positively identified the suspect through a photo array.

Police learned the suspect lived in a third floor apartment inside 270 Huntington Ave. in the Fenway area. When they arrived at the apartment, police said the suspect refused to open the door and police heard the racking of a slide to a firearm. Officers called in backup, set up a perimiter around the building, and called in a S.W.A.T team with negotiators.

After a short while, police reported the negotiators were able to get the suspect and two others who were inside to leave the apartment without incident. The suspect, Edgar Rodriguez of 270 Huntington Ave., was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm.

The two other people found inside the apartment, Jordana Swanson of 2593 Washington St. and Mayya Shoykhet of 48 Woodlawn St., Lynn, were also arrested. Swanson was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Lynn District Court, and Shoykhet was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and armed robbery.

Shoykhet faced the extra weapons charge because police believed she hid a gun in the apartment during negotations with the S.W.A.T team.

However, upon searching the apartment, police said they found a replica of a semi-automatic gun behind the refrigerator. Since the gun was not real, the weapons charge may be dropped, police said.
