Police: Jeep Stolen, Found in Fenway Area

A car went missing near Marlborough and Hereford Street, but didn't go too far.

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. 

A stolen car made it a couple blocks before police located it in the Fenway neighborhood on Friday evening. 

A man walked into the police station to report a stolen car at about 4 p.m. on Friday, July 5.  He told police that he parked his 2012 white Jeep Grand Cherokee on Wednesday, July 3 near the intersection of Marlborough and Hereford Street. at about 4 p.m. and returned at 8 a.m. on Friday to find his car was missing.

The victim contacted the Boston tow line, the State Police tow line and various local tow companies, but wasn't able to locate his car. 

Later that night, police responded to a report of a found stolen vehicle at about 6:10 p.m. at Boylston and Ipswich Street. Officers located the vehicle parked in front of The Baseball Tavern at 1270 Boylston Street with the doors unlocked. Officers contacted the owner and told him to come down to the scene in order to reclaim his car.

While the officer waited for the man to respond, a homeless man approached a Boston Police Chief with the keys and the registration to the vehicle, police said. 

Officers observed no damage to the car. The stolen car unit was notified and the victim drove off.
