The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

A Walpole man was charged with pulling out a knife in a Northeastern Student Center on Tuesday night.

At 6:52 p.m., Northeastern Police were dispatched to the Curry Student Center at 360 Huntington Avenue for a report of a person with a knife. A student witnessed a man with brown hair, khaki cargo shorts, a black T-shirt, glasses between 5’ 7’’ to 5’ 10’’ in the company of two other men, with no description.

Upon arrival, Boston police met with two witnesses, who were shaking, crying and visibly scared. After the witnesses calmed down, one of the witnesses told the police that they were conducting a survey for a class.

When the witness approached the suspect to conduct the survey, she observed the suspect playing with something in his pockets. When she began to stare, the witness claimed that the suspect brandished a camouflage military style folding knife. The witness was reportedly very frightened because she had seen the news about the multiple stabbing on the Lone Star Community College campus in Texas that day.

The witness then went to the bookstore and texted her friend. They then contacted security.

Security stopped three men, one of whom matched the provided description. The witnesses identified the suspect and said that they were 100 percent that the suspect had a knife on him.

At this time, officers placed Joseph Cobb of 1536 Main Street, Walpole, MA with disorderly conduct, carrying of a non-dangerous weapon during a breach of peace, and carrying a weapon on a college campus. Cobb told the police that he and his friends hang out at Northeastern and he carries a knife because they have to pass through a rough part of town. Cobb said he was unaware that he had frightened anyone.
