Huntington Avenue Trees on the Chopping Block to Make Way for New Dorm

A public hearing has been scheduled on Dec. 18th to discuss the removal of 20 shade trees lining the intersection of Huntington Avenue and Louis Prang Streets due to construction of a new Wenworth dormitory.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will host a public hearing to discuss the proposed removal of 20 public shade trees at the intersection of Huntington Avenue and Louis Prang Streets in mid-December. 

The hearing will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18, in the 3rd floor Conference Room of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department located at 1010 Massachusetts Ave., Roxbury. 

The hearing will discuss an application for the removal of 11 linden trees on Vancouver Street, four linden trees on Louis Prang Street, and five London plane trees on Huntington Avenue due to construction of upperclassmen student housing on property owned by Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The $43 million, 7-story, 114,000 square foot dormitory building planned for 525 Huntington Avenue was approved by the city of Boston last week.
