Mass Conventioneers Support Romney, Knock Sox Rivals' Digs

The convention, held in the home of the Tampa Bay Rays, reminded some Massachusetts Delegates of home and the troubled Red Sox.

TAMPA, FL — Plymouth County District Attorney and Massachusetts delegate Timothy Cruz said he's impressed with how well organized the Republican National Convention has been so far in Tampa.

As for Tropicana Field, the indoor home of the Tampa Bay Rays in nearby St. Petersburg ...

"It's tough to beat Fenway (Park)," Cruz said.

Cruz and his entourage—his son, Tim Cruz; his brother John Cruz, a plumber from West Bridgewater; and Steve Silveira, from the North Shore — were on their way Wednesday to Channelside, the restaurant and bar district located a few blocks from the RNC venue in downtown Tampa.

They had already attended an RNC kickoff party at the baseball stadium earlier in the week, in addition to a baseball game. They didn't mind watching the Rays, who have pulled away from the struggling hometown team, the Boston Red Sox, in the standings.

"Now we're Patriots fans," Timothy Cruz joked.

As for politics, Cruz hasn't just jumped onto the Mitt Romney bandwagon this election season. He's been following the former Massachusetts governor for the past 10 years.

"He's a good man, and he's going to make a great president," Cruz said. "He's not going to make decisions based on what the polls said this morning."
