The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will host a public meeting regarding proposed Bowker Overpass repairs Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Boston Public Library.

According to MassDOT, the meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the Mezzanine Conference Room at the library's Central Branch at 700 Boylston St.

The proposed repairs to the deteriorated overpass include deck replacement and superstructure work over Beacon Street, Commonwealth Avenue and the Muddy River.

Work is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2014, MassDOT said.

MassDOT described the work they plan to do on the overpass as "interim repairs" due to "accelerated deterioration" of its bridge structures.

The proposed repairs "are considered necessary to provide safe passage over and under the structures and to avoid unnecessary emergency repairs at inconvenient times," according to MassDOT.

Views and comments at next week's meeting will be reviewed and considered by project officials "to the maximum extent possible," according to MassDOT.
