Tech Savvy Introduces STEM to Middle School Girls

Information:
Twenty middle school girls will visit several local colleges as part of Tech Savvy, a weeklong program now in its fourth year that was launched by the Boston Area Girls STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Collaborative. The program introduces young girls to technology, engineering, and computing fields; inspires their interests by presenting engaging activities; and exposes them to college campuses so they can learn about career opportunities in these fields.

Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to have fun and be creative in activities such as programming phone applications, designing computer games, creating robots, and building bridges. The program offers participants the opportunity to visit different venues each day of the week, and it is spearheaded by professors and professionals working in STEM fields.

Program activities will be held on the campuses of Wentworth Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Boston University, UMass Boston, Harvard, and MIT.

Members of the Boston Area Girls STEM Collaborative include the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, Boston University, Emmanuel College, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Science Club for Girls, Simmons College, UMass Boston, Wentworth, and WGBH.
