Soldiers Field Road was reopened Sunday at 3:30 a.m., eight hours after a tour bus with 42 people on board hit Bowker Overpass. Rescue personnel worked through Saturday night first removing the victims and then clearing the bus from the road. Of the 42 passengers, 36 people were injured, including three with serious injuries and one with a life-threatening injury. Approximately 21 went to to Beth Israel Deaconness, three to Brigham & Womens, three to New England Medical Center, seven to Massachusetts General Hospital and one to Boston Medical Center. State Police shut down Soldiers Field Road for hours Saturday night after a tour bus accident that entrapped several passengers and left 34 injured. Boston firefighters spent more than an hour extricating passengers, using backboards, from the roof of the bus at 500 Soldiers Field Road, eastbound. The tour bus, which was going from Harvard University to Pennsylvania, hit an overpass at 7:34 p.m. Forty-two people were on board. Sixty firefighters and "many, many EMS" responded to the scene, Boston Fire reported. An MBTA faces charges after striking a Parking Enforcement Officer.
MBTA Bus Driver Lataria Milton, 34, of Somerville was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and reckless operation of a motor vehicle on Friday, August 10, after striking a Parking Enforcement Officer in Kenmore Square Thursday morning. According to a press release from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Transit Police responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision. A 65 Bus had struck a 44-year-old Parking Enforcement Officer who was trying to ticket the bus for parking illegally in Kenmore Square. The Parking Enforcement Officer instructed Milton to move, but Milton allegedly ignored the victim, opting to eat breakfast inside the parked bus. An MBTA bus driver was arrested after striking a Boston Transportation Department Parking Enforcement Officer in Kenmore Square Thursday morning. Lataria Milton, 34, is being charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Operating to Endanger and will be arraigned tomorrow in Roxbury District Court. According to MBTA Director of Communications, Joe Pesaturo, witnesses told police the incident began shortly after 8:00 a.m. when a Route 65 bus operator tried to avoid being ticketed for stopping in a no-standing zone on Commonwealth Avenue in Kenmore Square. A bus struck a pedestrian near the intersecion of Commonwealth Avenue and Deerfield Street, according to public safety scanner reports.
