Artists Wanted for Symphony Park Public Art

The Boston Art Commission and Friends of Symphony Park is looking for an artist to create permanent public art in Fenway's Symphony park.

As part of a community-led initiative to improve Symphony Park, local organizations are seeking to install a unique public art display.

Until March 8, the Boston Art Commission and Friends of Symphony Park, among others, are seeking applications from artists to help design a $15,000 art installation in Fenway's Symphony Park.

"Projects that reflect and support the physical and cultural environs of the Fenway are encouraged, as are inspirations that incorporate music or community themes," the announcement to artist reads. " Creating a sense of place that speaks to the culturally rich neighborhood is important, especially because of the proximity to Symphony Hall and Berklee College of Music."

A Boston landscape architectural firm, Warner Larson, Inc. has already been hired to develop the overall park renovation design. The money for the art installation is made possible through the Edward Ingersoll Browne Fund.

Symphony Park is a half-acre passive park in the Fenway neighborhood owned by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. It was created in the early 1970’s during Boston’s Urban Renewal efforts and has not been comprehensively renovated since its construction. The park is primarily maintained by Morville House, Burbank Gardens, and the Friends of Symphony Community Park.
