Northeastern Student Arrested for Sexual Assault in Mission Hill

The 21-year-old student was held on $30,000 bail for allegedly attacking two women in Mission Hill over the weekend.

Police have arrested a Northeastern student for his alleged role in one, and possibly two sexual assaults in Mission Hill this past weekend. 

Patrick Barry, 21, of 878 Huntington Ave. in Mission Hill, was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on Monday on charges of armed robbery, assault with intent to rape, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.  He was held on $30,000 bail. 

Police sent out an alert on Saturday after two women reported being attacked around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning in Mission Hill.

In the first incident, a female victim reported she was was walking home  in the area of Vancouver Street and Huntington Avenue and was attacked from behind, police said. The victim told officers the suspect jumped out of the bushes, grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. The female victim was stabbed in the leg, but was able to escape. Her injuries are non-life threatening. 

Less than an hour later at approximately, 2:51am officers responded to another call of a person stabbed in the area of Huntington Avenue and Parker Hill Street. Upon arrival officers spoke with a young female victim who reported she was grabbed from behind and knocked to the ground, by an unknown suspect. The second victim was also stabbed, in the hand, but was able to escape.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether he is responsible for the second attack, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's office.

Barry was identified with the assistance of individuals who contacted investigators after surveillance images were released to the public, prosecutors said. The witnesses told police that Barry was bleeding from cuts to his face in the early hours of Sunday morning and that he claimed to have sustained when he was confronted by a knife-wielding attacker whom he fought off using his own knife, prosecutors said.

Barry is expected to return to court on July 8.
