Police Pin Second Mission Hill Assault on Northeastern Student

Patrick Barry was involved in a second Mission Hill assault over the weekend, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

The Northeastern student charged in one sexual assault on Mission Hill from over the weekend was charged today for a second attack that occurred an hour later, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said on Tuesday.

DA Spokesperson Jake Wark said there was new evidence developed by Boston Police detectives in the past 24 hours that Patrick Barry, 21, was involved in the second sexual assault that occurred on Mission Hill on Saturday. 

Barry was arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on Wednesday on the additional charges of charges of assault with intent to rape and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the DA's office. Bail was set at $20,000. A judge also set a 9 p.m. curfew and an order to stay waway from from Mission Hill, Northeastern University, and the Huntington Avenue apartment in which he had been living while attending school.

Barry was first arraigned on Monday on charges of armed robbery, assault with intent to rape, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and was held on $30,000 bail. 

Barry has been charged in the two assaults that occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning in Mission Hill.

In the first incident, a female victim reported she was was walking home in the area of Vancouver Street and Huntington Avenue and was attacked from behind, police said. The victim told officers the suspect jumped out of the bushes, grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. The female victim was stabbed in the leg, but was able to escape. Her injuries are non-life threatening. 

Less than an hour later at approximately, 2:51 a.m., officers responded to another call of a person stabbed in the area of Huntington Avenue and Parker Hill Street. Upon arrival officers spoke with a young female victim who reported she was grabbed from behind and knocked to the ground, by an unknown suspect. The second victim was also stabbed, in the hand, but was able to escape. 

Investigators said Barry was identified by individuals who contacted investigators after surveillance images were released to the public. The witnesses told police that Barry was bleeding from cuts to his face in the early hours of Sunday morning and that he claimed to have sustained when he was confronted by a knife-wielding attacker whom he fought off using his own knife, prosecutors said.

Northeastern University officials said that while they can confirm Barry is a current student, they cannot comment on the matter any further:

The university is dedicated to the safety of all Boston residents, including our Northeastern community. We are pursuing appropriate action in close coordination with Boston law enforcement authorities.
Consistent with federal law, we cannot comment further on an individual student's situation.
